hey, welcome to my model railroad... blog? thing? not sure what to call it

this page will likely always be considered "under construction",
or at least it will be for probably the entire lifetime of this site
(also, should note that i model exclusively in HO scale)

--------------------------------------------------------

Beginnings (20?? - 201?)

so, before the Current Railroad, my layout was...
nonexistent...! i simply just. stored my like,
four locomotives in a box with a ton of ez-track
and would kinda just build loops wherever they'd fit
n' hook it right up to the controller. which, was fun,
i'll admit, but. it wasn't really good to constantly
pack up and unpack model locomotives and track into
essentially a big tupperware bowl. (which, i'm pretty
sure is how my Amtk F40PH's front axle completely
disconnected and won't go back in (now the UP F40,
after i swapped the frames on them way back then.)

i remember VERY distinctly that CSS 2004 (my top favorite of
all of them) was actually only bought because of the running
number being 2004. i, was not very smart as a kid BUT.
funnily enough, i didn't even realize that CSS was a local
railroad to me until like. 2014! (which was a LONG while after
we had gotten CSS 2004). speaking of 2004, though, for a couple
years it had the body swapped out with a BNSF GP38-2 body. i'm
almost 100% confident that i did it because i was a dumb kid
and went "OH MY GOD I RECOGNIZE THOSE COLORS IN THAT ORDER IT GOOD!!!"
...regardless though, thankfully by like, late 2014 the body had
been swapped back to its rightful owner.

(although! i could just be gaslighting myself into believing
that this happened, because i still have the BNSF GP38-2 and
it has it's own frame and everything!.. so, my memory's
pretty foggy on this topic i guess, heh.)

oh yeah and at some point when i was like 6 or something i
accidentally melted the internals of a 611 woops
(i had no idea that there was a switch to turn off
the smoke machine in it, so it kinda. uh. didn't go too well.)

Current Railroad (201? - present)

(my current layout, a gifted 4ftx8ft peanut-ish loop)

so, i don't particularly remember when it was that
i got this layout, but i do remember that it came
from one of my grandfather's friends, along with
a huge stockpile of rolling stock and locomotives.
honestly, i kinda like this layout despite it being like,
a REALLY awkward shape n' track layout.

i think the only real issue with this layout is
(aside from the abovely mentioneded thingm) simply
the fact that it's impossible to fit anywhere else
in the house, because of the weight and restricting
corners n' stuff making it impossible to really like. get it anywhere.
but, also the fact that it's so old that it's kinda falling
apart on its own (slowly but surely) and i just, don't
know how long it can last. plus, i can't really do much
work with it since all the tracks are permanently placed.

if i could, i would definitely give it to a friend, but..
i don't think with the way current world events are will
allow for that :(
(plus we really need the money from selling it, instead of
just giving it away.)

Future Plans Railroad (Future - Future)

as you've probably seen if you read through the blog,
then you'll know that (as of 2/6/22) my life's been kinda
messy due to my step dad moving in, and my mom gaslighting
me into believing i wanted to get rid of my current layout.

however, i guess in some form, this may be a good thing,
as now we've actually decided on a dedicated room for my layout
(it replaces her weird puppet room thing) and plan to move
my current one in there, while we plan out the materials and cost
of building the plans listed above. (keep in mind, plans still
heavily subject to change.)

and if you're wondering, the reason i went with a music
note like shape, is because of the weirdly specific circumstances
of the room as it currently is.
the cube in the top left is the grandfather clock, which i REFUSE
to move purely out of nostalgia (and also to give me creative
limitations), the angled thing in the bottom left is.. like,
a sorta closet pantry thing that has a lotta stuff stored in it,
which is also being left there for the same reasons.
and, pretty self explanatory but, the holes in the walls
are doorways which lead in/out of the room.

i also plan to have the layout built in a way that lets you
like, detach sections so it's like a semi-modular layout,
just incase it'd ever need to be moved somewhere.

oh and also because i'm a stupid fucking gremlin idiot
i wanna have the railroad's units be all just tiny little
steeplecabs and boxcabs lol

and obviously the stuff i wanna keep from my current rr
which so far is:
CSS 2004 (both the new and old one)
CSS 802 (my name sake)
CSS 1657
CSS 10003
CSS 34 (fictional streetcar)
MP 2263
CNW 4410
Septa 2100
PRR 4644
SP 4454
Caltrain (doesn't have a number, F40)
PRR 2790
ATSF 632
A pair of streetcars ("RTC", both #4???)
and i think that's it, actually

worked out the measurements n' stuff, and
came up with this plan using atlas's planner,
which is a lot more cramped than expected,
but honestly i'm fine with that.

danni said she's gonna try n'
make a layout that'd fit within the
size limits of the room, which are as follows:
so, i'll probably update this later
when she gets done with that n' add her plan
to the page n' my thoughts on it

danni got around to making her edit of
the route, and honestly, i think i'm gonna
go with her track plan instead, it's just
way more unique, plus it's a bit smaller,
so it'd be cheaper to build (which is very much so needed)
honestly kinda like the idea of it
being a small interchange yard in the
middle of a much bigger mainline, which
is the vibe this one gives me

alternatively: this gives me the
same vibe as the one museum built off of
the sacramento northern's trackage in some sense.
all in all, i'm 100% gonna go for this instead

update 3/12/22 3:52pm est

got the table moved into the storage room
along with all the rolling stock n' what not
probably the last place it'll settle in the
house for now, as the only steps
from here are to simply:

1. sell off the models i'm not keeping
2. start construction of the new layout
3. once new layout is stable enough and has tracks, move models i'm keeping to it
4. once the move is complete, sell off the old table and begin finishing up the new layout

which admittedly, will probably take like 6 years minimum

but still, point is this is this table's last spot in the house
still not sure when i'll sell off the old models yet, but i'll let y'know
